(Cass County, MI) – At least one casualty has been reported in the aftermath of tornadic storms that ripped through Cass County, Michigan Friday evening.
On Saturday morning the Sheriff’s Office there issued this statement:
“It is with a heavy heart that Sheriff Clint Roach reports that a young man from the Edwardsburg area has lost his life in a weather-related incident. Cass County Central Dispatch received a 911 call at approximately 3:12 pm on 03/06/2026. Information received indicated that a possible tornado touched down in the 68000 block of Conrad Rd. North of US 12 Edwardsburg, Michigan, Milton Twp. The caller advised that they could not find their son. Upon arrival of First Responders, it was determined that he had been located and his parents were providing first aid. 12 yr old Silas Anderson was taken to South Bend Memorial Hospital where he succumbed to his injuries. Silas was surrounded by family at the time of his passing. Sheriff Roach asks that you respect the family's privacy as they try to comprehend and deal with this tragedy.”
Other injuries were reported in Cass County, in addition to severe damage to homes and businesses. A state of emergency has been declared there, and the American Red Cross is in the area providing assistance.
As the storms traveled east, other areas in southern Michigan were also affected. A tornado in Three Rivers damaged the Menards and a nearby storage facility. Thousands of people were left without power. Three other people were reported killed and at least a dozen injured in Branch County, north of Angola.
