(La Porte County, IN) - There’s a new person in charge of an emergency services position in La Porte County government.
Matt Deckard is now director of the E-911 dispatch center. He was the assistant E-911 director for the past five years. Deckard’s hiring was approved unanimously Wednesday by the La Porte County Commissioners.
“We’re almost back to full staff now. That’s our number one priority. We’re the closest we’ve been in a long time, so, knock on wood we keep that going,” he said.
He replaces Barb Huston, who came out of retirement in 2021 to accept the job. Huston is running for La Porte County Assessor. She is unopposed in the Republican May primary.
Incumbent Mike Schultz, a democrat, is also without a primary challenger.
