(Michigan City, IN) - New portable radios for police officers and firefighters are being considered in Michigan City.
The request calls for nearly 150 radios to replace the ones police officers and firefighters use out in the field. Fire Chief Barrett Taylor told the city council Tuesday night the current radios work well but they are on borrowed time since parts are no longer made for the 11 year old devices.
“If we need to fix them, once we can’t find parts the radios are useless,” he said.
The radios would acquired under a three year lease for about $1.1 million. The city council took the request under consideration for a decision later this month or in early April.
