(La Porte County, IN) - An attempted murder charge has been filed for the stabbing of a Westville prison offender.
Caleb Cain is an offender accused of stabbing another offender, Nicholas Medalen, in the neck with a homemade knife in July of 2024. Authorities said Cain followed the offender into a bathroom then stabbed him. Cain then walked out and allegedly told a prison guard that he committed an act of violence and he would find the victim in the bathroom, authorities said.
The victim had surgery but later complained of partial paralysis from the knife making contact with his spinal cord, according to court documents.
Cain was serving time for attempted murder out of Hendricks County at the time of the stabbing. The victim was in prison for a child molesting conviction in Hamilton County.
