(Michigan City, IN) - An inmate has been found guilty of beating another inmate to death at the prison in Westville.  Donell Davis, 31, was convicted of murder by a La Porte Superior Court 2 jury yesterday.

Authorities said he repeatedly kicked and punched 35 year old John Taylor in the bathroom of a prison dormitory in November of 2023.  Taylor’s body was then dragged into his cell.

“The jury believed the evidence as presented by the state and they took their time in examining the evidence, hearing the testimony and then rendered a verdict,” said La Porte County Prosecutor Sean Fagan.  Davis was serving time for crimes like arson in Marion County when the beating occurred.  He’s now facing anywhere from 45 to 65 years of additional prison time when sentenced on February 27.  Taylor was in prison for seriously injuring a person in a beating near Bloomington.
