(La Porte, IN) - A funeral home in La Porte for nearly 100 years has new owners who grew up in the community.
Haverstock Funeral Home and Cremation Services has been acquired by Lori Greenlaw-Sheeler and David Holm. Greenlaw-Sheeler, a 1992 La Porte High School graduate and licensed funeral director, has spent the last 10 years leading more than a dozen family-owned funeral homes across the state.
Holm, a member of the La Porte High School Class of 2007, has made a career out of helping families prearrange funeral services.
The longtime former owners, Richard and Terri Vyse, are planning to retire. The Vyse’s committed to keeping the funeral home locally owned turned to Greenlaw-Sheeler about her interest. She then approached Holm and together “they embraced the opportunity to plant deeper roots in their hometown, serve their community and preserve local ownership for generations to come,” according to a statement from the funeral home.
“We are deeply grateful to Richard and Terri for their trust and for their commitment to keeping Haverstock Funeral Home in local hands at a time when so many funeral homes are being sold to large corporations,” Greenlaw-Sheeler and Holm said in a joint statement.
The new owners revealed they plan to introduce over time additional programs, family support resources and community focused initiatives designed to help families heal in meaningful, individualized ways. Greenlaw-Sheeler and Holm also intend to use the nickname of the LPHS athletic teams on their new tagline: Slicer owned, Slicer operated.
