(La Porte, IN) - A driver who struck an Indiana Department of Transportation snow plow truck in La Porte’s downtown area is accused of being impaired.
Alana McVeigh, 31, is charged in La Porte Circuit Court with Level 6 felony operating while intoxicated. La Porte Police said the investigation shows McVeigh was approaching the snow plow truck from behind when her SUV struck it Monday at E. Lincolnway and Scott St.
Police said McVeigh fled and soon was spotted driving toward another motorist in the opposite lane. She was soon pulled over on State St. Her alleged blood alcohol level was just under three times the .08 percent legal limit.
Police said the truck did not appear damaged but the front end of the woman’s vehicle sustained damage to the grill and a light on the right side of the front end.
The charge was upgraded to a felony because of a prior OWI conviction about two weeks prior to the collision. She was given 60 days on probation, according to court records.
