Two Reckless Drivers Arrested Near Dangerous Intersection
(Marshall County, IN) - Police in Marshall County arrested two women for driving recklessly in a dangerous area of US 31 last week.
Early Tuesday morning, 31-year-old Krystal Hardy of Plymouth was pulled over at the intersection of 31 and SR 10. She was allegedly doing 115 mph.
The following day Indiana State Police pursued a northbound 2005 Chevy Cavalier driving erratically in the same area, approaching 100 mph. That car eventually lost control in the snow and crashed into a concrete ditch. The driver, 35-year-old Amber McDowell, fled on foot but was tased by officers and apprehended. Police say McDowell, of Indianapolis, showed signs of intoxication and had two active warrants for arrest.
The stretch of US 31 near SR 10 has caused public outcry recently following a series of accidents there, including a rear-end collision Friday evening and a fatal accident a few weeks ago. INDOT has installed temporary safety measures and plans to reconfigure that intersection in 2028.
Indiana State Police Sgt. Ted Bohner says they are watching the notorious intersection closely. According to Bohner, between January 1st and January 6th, troopers have stopped 72 vehicles in the area resulting in 19 tickets and 53 warnings.
