(Michiana Shores, IN) - A garbage truck pulled down some power lines near the lakefront.  That’s according to La Porte County Police, who were called to Michiana Dr. and Hoosier Dr. just after 6 a.m. on Wednesday.

Police said the investigation shows the wires were hanging low across the intersection when snagged by a Lakeshore Recycling Systems garbage truck. The wires were attached to a NIPSCO pole, which broke from the tension created by the truck until it stopped.  The driver told investigators he didn’t see the wires because it was still dark and there were no street lights, police said.  

Police said the driver explained he didn’t know about the wires until he heard a loud bang and looked back to see arching from the power lines.
