(La Porte County, IN) - A stretch of U.S. 421 in La Porte County was closed due to a motor vehicle accident during a lake effect snow event this morning.

The La Porte County Sheriff’s Office reports the highway was blocked from the Indiana Toll Road to Interstate 94 because of the crash near 100 North.  Police said the Indiana Department of Transportation was assisting with keeping vehicles off that stretch of highway. 

Motorists were advised to avoid the area.  Near whiteout conditions were reported in spots, police said.  Further details, so far, have not been released.
