(New Carlisle, IN) - Well over a foot of lake effect snow has fallen in the New Carlisle area while places to the west received just a few inches at the most. New Carlisle area resident Robin Reese estimated close to 20 inches of snow was on the ground during her half mile, low visibility drive to work this morning at The Diner.
“It was pretty rough. I had like a two foot drift in front of my garage door. You couldn’t see the roads,” she said. La Porte County Commissioner Steve Holifield said he had about five inches of snow at his home in the Mill Creek area when he woke up about 4 a.m. About an inch or less of snow was reported further to the west in communities like La Porte, Michigan City and New Buffalo. Westville Town Council President Mike Albert reported about three inches of snow in his community.
La Porte Street Department Supervisor Ian Eldridge said roads in the city since snowfall totals were minimal are in “pretty good shape.” He said fallen tree limbs from the high winds were removed from Michigan Ave. and Lakeshore Dr.
