(La Porte, IN) - Police say a man who crashed into parked vehicles in La Porte and fled had consumed a very large amount of alcohol.

 

The suspect, Bernardo Chagala Cosme, 34, also allegedly had some cocaine.

 

Police said he was driving a sport utility vehicle that struck two parked vehicles Monday night in the 300 block of Warren St. and fled despite heavy front end damage to the SUV.

 

Cosme was found a short time later beside the vehicle in the 500 block of Home St. where an undisclosed amount of cocaine was allegedly found on his possession. 

 

Police said the La Porte man did not have a valid driver’s license but his name was confirmed on his identification card from Mexico.  His blood alcohol level was .350 percent or more than four times the legal .08 percent legal limit.

 

Cosme was being held in the La Porte County Jail without bond pending his initial hearing in La Porte Circuit Court.
