(La Porte, IN) - A two story house was heavily damaged in a weekend fire in La Porte.
Firefighters just after 9 p.m. on Saturday responded to 1312 Monroe St. La Porte Fire Chief Andy Snyder said a woman living in the home was not there when the fire broke out apparently in the walls on the first floor. Snyder said the flames then climbed into the second floor and attic. “Pretty substantial damage,” he said.
Firefighters managed to save a rabbit from the burning structure but a cat in the home perished. Snyder said the fire was possibly from some type of electrical issue but the cause has not yet been officially determined. He said it’ll be up to the insurance company to decide whether the home can be repaired. There were no injuries. Firefighters were on the scene for more than three hours.
