Former Miami Hurricanes Football Star Rooting for Indiana Tonight

(La Porte, IN) - A former college football star from La Porte is rooting for Indiana in tonight’s college football final four game.

Bob Strieter was a lineman on offense and defense for the Miami Hurricanes, who will play the Hoosiers for the national championship if Indiana defeats Oregon tonight.

“I’d love to see that happen.  That would be quite a treat,” he said.

In the early 60’s, Strieter played three seasons at the University of Miami then played one year in the Canadian Football League.  Ironically, his grandson, Owen, made the I.U. football team as a walk-on a few years before the sudden turnaround of the Hoosiers football program.

Strieter citing loyalty to his alma mater said he will root for Miami if the Hoosiers and Hurricanes play for the national championship.

“I have to do that.  That’s where I got my education and chance to play professional,” he said.

Later, Strieter spent over 20 years coaching the La Porte High School football team.   Eight of those years were as head coach.
