Bar Fight Results in Felony Charges

(La Porte, IN) - A man is facing several felony counts following a fight outside a La Porte bar.  Daryl Rhodes, II, 24, of Michigan City is charged in La Porte Circuit Court with unlawful carrying of a handgun and intimidation, both Level 5 felonies, along with pointing a firearm, a Level 6 felony, and Class A misdemeanor battery.

According to court documents, a verbal altercation inside Mickey’s Bar early on January 3 led to Rhodes and a 24 year woman hitting a female in her early 20’s outside the tavern.  At some point, it’s alleged Rhodes pointed a gun at another woman during the physical altercation.  A gunshot was then fired from somewhere by an unknown individual.

The woman was hit and took off in a car and crashed in front of the bar into a Dodge Durango belonging to a man involved in the dispute.  It appears the owner of the vehicle crashed into along with Rhodes removed the woman from the car and began striking her, police said.

Police said the woman suffered a large contusion to her head and was bleeding from a cut to her upper lip.  Rhodes was prohibited from having a gun due to several prior felony convictions, according to authorities.  He was being held in the La Porte County Jail without bond.
