U.S. Blood Supply Nears Shortage

(Washington, D.C.) - The United States is teetering on the edge of a blood shortage.  That's according to the American Red Cross, which is now asking for help. Officials say the low supplies follow the busy holiday season, which caused donations to go down.

Unless blood donations increase soon, the Red Cross says doctors may have to make decisions about which patients receive blood transfusions and who will need to wait.

People can donate blood Tuesday at Northwest Health in La Porte from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m.  A full list of blood donation opportunities and locations are available at redcross.org.
