(La Porte, IN) - The refrigerated ice skating rink in downtown La Porte is operating again following some recent repairs.
La Porte Park Department Superintendent Mark Schreiber said mechanical problems involving the refrigerant that allows ice to form were fixed on Monday. “We’re back up and running,” he said.
The rink at State and Monroe streets is open today from 1 p.m. to 9 p.m. on what’s called Free Skate Fridays sponsored by the La Porte Health Foundation. The rink will also be open during the same times on Saturday and Sunday.
People can bring their own skates or choose from more than 300 pairs of skates available to rent at the rink, which is open for the season through January 25. Schreiber said attendance this year like last year has been very strong.
