(Benton Township, MI) - A man was killed early Monday morning following a fiery crash involving two semi-trucks in Benton Township.

 

Police say the crash happened around 5:45 a.m. in the eastbound lanes of I-94 near the 29-mile marker. Investigators say one semi struck another that was parked on the shoulder, causing both trucks to catch fire.

 

Despite rescue efforts, one of the drivers was pronounced dead at the scene. The driver has not yet been identified.  The second semi driver was not injured.

 

Police say neither truck was carrying hazardous materials, adding that HAZMAT crews were on scene only to assist with a diesel and oil spill.

 

The crash remains under investigation.
