(Michigan City, IN) - Plans for a high rise hotel and condominiums in Michigan City seems to be at risk.
The Michigan City Redevelopment Commission has voted to not renew a development agreement with the company proposing the project. Mayor Angie Nelson Deuitch said its been nearly five years and the developer still has not secured financing for the work.
She said the city during that time invested a lot of resources to help get construction off the ground. Since the company doesn’t have financing in place yet, she said the redevelopment commission felt it was best to let the agreement expire at the end of the year should expectations continue not being met.
”When a project is unable to meet those requirements after extensive effort and multiple extensions, it is our responsibility to acknowledge that reality and move forward,” Deuitch said.
The plans included a 14 story hotel and another building similar in size to house condominiums on US 12 near the city’s lakefront.
