(Michigan City, IN) - The draw bridge at Michigan City’s lakefront will be closed soon for repairs.

 

 

 

The historic Franklin St. bridge will be closed for over two months beginning January 5. Project Manager Andy Skwiat told the La Porte County Commissioners last night the goal is to be done with the work and reopen the bridge by March 15. Officials want the bridge reopened by then so people have easy access to the lakefront again at a time when demand for traveling to the Lake Michigan shoreline begins picking up.

 

Major work on the bridge has occurred annually during the winter in recent years to keep it working properly since the span over Trail Creek is the main access point to the lakefront.
