La Porte Renews Push for New Bears Stadium

(La Porte, IN) - La Porte Mayor Tom Dermody is planning an all-out blitz to try and lure the Chicago Bears into the city.

The Bears announced they have reopened their search for a site to build a new stadium and included Northwest Indiana as one of the possible locations.  La Porte officials tried once before to get the Bears to come here before the team announced several months ago that Arlington Heights, Illinois was the site for the new stadium.   The search was just expanded after talks to build a stadium in the Chicago suburb recently broke down.

Dermody said he will firmly make the case again for La Porte.  ”We’re back in the game and, absolutely, I think our community would love to have the Bears here as their home team,” he said.  Dermody said the plan is to first reach out to the Bears to discuss what La Porte has to offer for building the stadium here.

“This is a perfect place for our future and their future together,” he said.

Dermody said he’s already contacted the governor for help in trying to get the Bears to come here.  There’s speculation the city will push to have the stadium built along the Indiana Toll Road in the area the city annexed nearly two years ago.
