(Michigan City, IN) - The La Porte County Prosecutor’s Office is asking a juvenile be charged as an adult for the slayings of a man and woman in Michigan City.
Currently, the 14 year old boy is charged as a juvenile. The man and wife in their 60’s were fatally stabbed about six weeks ago at their home on Schofield Court. There was a court hearing Tuesday for a judge to begin the process of deciding the request.
La Porte County Prosecutor Sean Fagan said the case under state law has to meet certain requirements to be waived from juvenile to adult court. “The court will assess certain factors. Look at mental health. Mental health well-being and what’s in the best interests of the child. Those kinds of things,” he said.
The victims were foster parents of the boy. So far, additional details about the killings have not been made available since the case is still in the juvenile court. Another court hearing on the matter is scheduled next month.
