(La Porte, IN) - Investigators are looking into the cause of a semi-truck fire at a grocery store in La Porte. Firefighters were called to Kroger before 6 a.m. on Sunday.
Fire Chief Andy Snyder said a trailer containing frozen food was attached to the still running semi, which caught fire just as the cargo was about to be unloaded. Snyder said the semi went up in flames but firefighters managed to limit the damage to the trailer and building to almost nothing.
The driver told investigators he started having issues with his engine stalling roughly one hour before arriving in La Porte. Snyder said what started the fire is not yet exactly known.
“It does not look like that we have a clear determination as to the cause,” Snyder said.
