(La Porte, IN) - The City of La Porte will have a new assistant fire chief.  Captain Zach Kanney, a member of the department for 18 years, will take over for Kelly Burke, who recently decided to step down as the second in command.

Fire Chief Andy Snyder complimented Kanney for his work throughout the years.  "Between his many years of valuable experience and the leadership skills he possesses, I know he will thrive in this new role. We congratulate him and are eager to see what he will bring to this position," he said.

Snyder said Burke will remain assistant fire chief until the end of the year before taking the rank of Battalion Chief at the department.
