(La Porte, IN) - A La Porte youth football team is back to back national champions.  The Pop Warner 11U team won the Division II national Pop Warner football title on Friday in Charlotte, North Carolina.

Head Coach Mike Nelson said his Greater La Porte Slicers team went 60 yards with about a minute to play for the game winning touchdown.  The ball was on the opponent’s 20 yard line when quarterback Ben Nelson threw a pass to Colten Rogers, who after the catch ran the ball four yards into the end zone just as time on the game clock expired.

“The whole place went nuts.  It was fun,” Nelson said.  The final score was 20-14 against Oceanside, California.  The story book ending to the season came a year after the team won the 10U national Pop Warner title 39-6 against a team from Pennsylvania.
