(Michigan City, IN) - Charges have been filed in connection with a man struck more than a dozen times in the head with a baseball bat in Michigan City.
Joshua Finai, 33, is charged in La Porte Superior Court 1 with Level 3 felony aggravated battery and Level 5 felony battery by means of a deadly weapon.
According to court documents, Finai in late October went into a home in the 200 block of Emma St. and spotted a man and woman asleep on the floor. They were fully clothed but the sight angered Finia, who had an off and on relationship with the woman, police said.
In response, police said Finai grabbed a wooden baseball bat and began striking the man in the head. At some point, the bat broke. However, Finai kept hitting the man with the broken bat until leaving after informed the police were coming, according to court documents.
The victim was in and out consciousness and lost control of his bowels from the pummeling. Police said the victim was placed into a medically induced coma at the hospital to assist in his recovery.
Finai could face anywhere from a 3 to 16 year sentence on the most serious count.
