(La Porte County, IN) - A man could face significant prison time on allegations he broke into the home of a Hudson Lake woman and pointed a gun at her before shooting himself.
Clifford Shoults, 42, is charged in La Porte Circuit Court with Level 2 felony burglary.
According to court documents, the woman woke up about 1 a.m. on November 6 to a man she knows later identified as Shoults standing in her bedroom.
Police said she ushered the man out of her home and told him not to return.
Several hours later, police said the woman through her ring camera noticed Shoults trying to open her locked door. She went over to the door and opened it. In response, Shoults allegedly grabbed her and forced his way into the residence.
Police said the woman broke free and was followed by Shoults into her bedroom where he pointed a pistol at her. The woman left the bedroom to get her 10 year old daughter and while leaving Shoults shot himself in the face, police said.
He was transported to Memorial Hospital in South Bend. The charge could bring him anywhere from a 10 to 30 year sentence.
