Action Taken to Improve School Sports Teams

(La Porte, IN) - A step aimed at making school sports teams in La Porte more competitive has been taken.

A strength and conditioning coordinator is a newly created position approved this week by the school board.  “As our athletic offerings continue to grow, it’s becoming increasingly clear that we need dedicated leadership in this area,” said La Porte Schools Superintendent Dr. Sandra Wood

Wood said the coordinator will work with students in grades K through 12.  “A strong, well-coordinated strength and conditioning program is truly foundational to any successful athletic system, improving performance, reducing injuries and ensuring that student athletes are trained safely and consistently across all seasons and teams,” she said.

Wood said whoever is chosen to fill the position will be considered an administrator reporting directly to the athletic director.  She said the goal is to present a finalist for the position to the school board for consideration in January.
