(La Porte County, IN) - A La Porte area man could face prison time on allegations he battered his pregnant girlfriend. Steven Albin, 27, is charged in La Porte Circuit Court with multiple counts including Level 5 felony battery of a pregnant woman.

La Porte County Police on November 28 were called to the home of the six weeks pregnant woman.  Police said the investigation shows Albin and the woman were arguing before he started hitting her multiple times in the area of her face over her refusing to have sex.  At some point, he allegedly knocked her to the floor.

In response, the woman grabbed a kitchen knife to defend herself and while slashing it at Albin sliced his upper left arm, police said.  Eventually, police said Albin, who knew she was pregnant, left and crashed a motor vehicle into a tree.  Albin was taken to the hospital and later booked into the La Porte County Jail.
