Christmas Shopping from Unlocked Vehicle

(La Porte County, IN) - La Porte County Police are hoping to catch a thief doing some early but illegal Christmas shopping.

Over $1,000 worth of gift and store rebate cards were taken from an unlocked vehicle sometime Tuesday night and early Wednesday outside a home in the area of 500 South and 900 West.

The victim told investigators she realized someone had been in her vehicle because there was snow on the front passenger side floorboard despite nobody sitting on that side of the vehicle for about a month, police said.  Police said another vehicle at that location was also entered but nothing was found missing.  Both vehicles were left unlocked.

A ring camera powered by solar energy at the home would have captured the theft but there hasn’t been enough sun to keep its battery charged.
