(La Porte County, IN) - A local official is receiving praise for standing up to President Trump.  Republican State Senator Mike Bohacek of Michiana Shores vowed to vote against redistricting after Trump referred to a national political figure as “seriously retarded.”

 

 

 

 

Bohacek’s daughter has Down Syndrome.  In a social media post, Bohacek stated “his choices of words have consequences.  I will be voting NO on redistricting.  Perhaps, he can use the next 10 months to convince voters that his policies and behavior deserve a congressional majority,” he added.

 

Michigan City Councilman Dr. Vidya Kora, a democrat, thanked Bohacek for his response during last night’s council meeting. “I’m so glad that he stood up for his daughter and stood up for the people with disabilities as an elected official and public servant,” he said.  Bohacek, a former La Porte County Commissioner, has been a state senator since 2016.
