TransPorte Going Cashless in 2026

(La Porte, IN) - The public bus service in La Porte will not accept cash beginning in January.

TransPorte is switching to cash less payments.

Mayor Tom Dermody made the announcement during Tuesday’s meeting of the Board of Public Works and Safety.

“That’s where the world is going,” he said.

Board member Mark Kosier said cashless payment is a system increasingly being used for concerts and sporting events like a Chicago Blackhawks game he recently attended.

“I think a lot of people might complain that they like to pull out cash.  I still carry cash.  Not a lot but that is the way these types of events work,” he said.

The city has already gone cashless in areas like events at the Civic Auditorium and the refrigerated ice rink downtown.
