(La Porte County, IN) - What could have been tragic ended safely thanks to La Porte County Police. Police said a motorist Monday night reported a vehicle northbound in the southbound lanes of U.S. 421 near 300 North. That stretch of highway has two travel lanes in each direction along with two additional lanes for turning.
The vehicle was still in the opposite lanes when spotted by a responding officer, who turned on his flashing lights to initiate a traffic stop but the driver kept going. The driver didn’t stop until he pulled into his driveway about a half mile away, police said. Edwin Amm, 67, had an alleged blood alcohol level of .129 percent. He’s charged with Class A misdemeanor operating while intoxicated and Level 6 felony resisting law enforcement.
