(La Porte, IN) - There’s a murder trial in La Porte Circuit Court.  65 year old John McCaw is charged in the fatal shooting of his girlfriend.  It happened in La Porte about three years ago inside the victim’s home in the 900 block of Ridge St.

Authorities believe he shot 57 year old Nancy Ainsworth through a pillow found near her body and tried covering up the murder.  A suicide note seemingly from the victim but in his writing was allegedly recovered from inside the home.

Police say McCaw also called 911 after leaving the home and reported Ainsworth shot herself by accident.  If convicted, he could face anywhere from a 45 to 65 year sentence.
