(La Porte, IN) - The county courthouse in downtown La Porte is closed today because of a heating system not providing enough warmth inside the structure.

County Commissioner Steve Holifield said efforts are underway to try and get the heating system working better.  He said temperatures in some areas of the courthouse this morning were in the low 50’s.

“It’s better for the staff just to stay home today,” he said.  Holifield said whether the courthouse opens tomorrow depends on how successful the effort today is to get the heating system working properly.  He emphasized all other county government buildings are open today.
