(Porter County, IN) - A man is dead after driving into a body of water this morning in Porter County.

According to the Porter County Sheriff’s Office, a 2002 Kia appears to have been eastbound on 700 North when for unknown reasons it traveled off the roadway.

The car wound up in Salt Creek and was submerged when emergency responders showed up after called to the scene after 8 a.m.

Police said the driver and only occupant of the car was located deceased outside the vehicle in the water.  The accident happened near Indiana 149 between Valparaiso and Portage.
