(La Porte County, IN) - A reckless driver claiming to be in a hurry to pick up his children is facing allegations of drunk driving.
Bryan Gillespie, 25, was arrested Friday evening for operating while intoxicated.
La Porte County Police said an officer responded to a report of a reckless driver by another motorist, who was nearly forced off the road by the suspect in the area of U.S. 20 and Indiana 2.
The motorist estimated his speed at more than 100 mph.
Police said the officer was positioned at U.S. 20 and 525 West when he spotted the westbound suspect, who stopped for a traffic light a short time later.
When the light turned green, the suspect accelerated rapidly enough for the officer to hear the roar of his engine, police said.
Eventually, he pulled over for the officer who had to travel more than 80 mph. to catch up. The South Bend man said he was in a hurry to pick up his children in Michigan City, according to police.
He was arrested with an alleged blood alcohol level of .139 percent.
