(La Porte County, IN) - A La Porte County official has been publicly criticized again for his use of words some people find offensive.

 

 

The latest criticism was uttered during the public comment portion of last night’s La Porte County Commissioners meeting by La Porte resident Susan Antoszewski.

Antoszewski singled out Commissioner Steve Holifield, who during a commissioners meeting last month called some people posting things on social media “cowardly losers on Facebook.”

 

“If you cannot represent citizens equally and without resorting to juvenile name calling, perhaps, you should step down,” she said.  Holifield, who’s been critical of name calling and misinformation in many social media posts, thanked her for her remarks.

 

No further response was offered by Holifield, a Mill Creek area farmer who was criticized a few months ago for calling La Porte County Councilman Justin Kiel a boy.  Kiel is in his late 20’s.  When reached this afternoon, Holifield said his choice of words reflects who he is and doesn’t believe he crossed the line.

 

“I don’t feel I acted inappropriately.  This is the way I’ve acted with my business.  My whole life,” he said. Holifield said he used the word cowardly to describe people leaving negative and incorrect posts anonymously.  He invited people to get their facts straight before posting.  “They can come to our office and ask questions anytime they want,” he said.
