Drug Dealer Charged in Overdose Death

(La Porte, IN) - A man is accused of selling the drugs that caused a La Porte woman to die over a year ago.

Michael Hart, 26, of Michigan City is charged in La Porte Circuit Court with dealing in a controlled substance resulting in death, a Level 1 felony.

He could face anywhere from a 20 to 40 year sentence.

In August of last year, authorities said he met Bailee Hoops in Michigan City and sold her narcotics.  The investigation shows the 30 year old Hoops returned to her home in the 1300 block of Kingsporte Lane where she was found dead the next morning by her live-in boyfriend.

Police said fentanyl and methamphetamine were found in her system.

According to authorities, Hart told investigators he purchased the drugs in Chicago and he had known Hoops for a long time.
