(La Porte County, IN) - A man suspected of being in the country illegally was caught speeding in La Porte County but he didn’t pull over right away.
Joaquin Medina, 43, is charged with resisting law enforcement and operating a vehicle without ever obtaining a driver’s license.
According to La Porte County Police, he was clocked early Tuesday at 80 mph. in a 45 mph. zone on U.S. 30 in Wanatah. The officer turned around and was following the vehicle when he attempted to make a traffic stop.
Medina, though, kept going for over eight miles before pulling over, police said.
Police said Medina told the officer he is from Mexico living currently in Ft. Wayne but came here illegally. He’s currently being held in the La Porte County Jail without bond.
No bond is set because Medina has a hold placed on him by United States Immigration and Customs Enforcement (I.C.E) for possible deportation once he’s found guilty or innocent of the charges he was arrested on.
