(La Porte County, IN) - The Northern Lights were easily seen last night in La Porte County.

 

La Porte resident Mike Kellems took his camera a few miles to the west near Garwood Orchards and took pictures of the red and green colored lights in the sky.

 

 

 

Kellems said he’s seen the Northern Lights in the area a few times previously but the ones Tuesday might have been the most brilliant looking.

 

“The colors were just so vibrant, probably the best I have ever seen,” he said.

 

The Northern Lights are expected to return and be visible again locally tonight. Kellems called the experience last night “absolutely surreal.”

 

“The sky doesn’t normally turn that color,” he said.

 

Kellems said he was on patrol for the La Porte County Sheriff’s Office when he first saw the Northern Lights roughly 25 years ago.

 

“I saw this red glow in the sky.   It’s definitely a unique experience,” he said.
