(La Porte, IN) - A number of NIPSCO customers in La Porte today were temporarily without power.

 

The power went out after 11 o’clock this morning.

 

NIPSCO said over 200 customers were impacted.  The utility estimated power would be restored by around 2 p.m.  However, service was restored by about 12:30 p.m.

 

Reports of fallen power lines in the area of Indiana 2 and Colfax St. on the city's west side are suspected of being linked to the outage.

 

The faster than anticipated restoration of service came shortly after the decision was made to close the courthouse and county complex in La Porte for the remainder of the day.

 

La Porte County Commissioner Steve Holifield said a skeleton crew was assembled to keep both structures open for the remainder of the business day.
