Police Enforcing Golf Cart Law

(Michigan City, IN) - The Michigan City Police Department is reminding citizens and visitors that golf carts are not allowed to be operated on public roadways.

The reminder and vow to enforce the law are in response to complaints about golf carts traveling on the public roadways at the city’s lakefront.

Police said golf carts, along with other off-road vehicles such as ATV’s and 4-Wheelers, are not equipped with the same safety features as an automobile.

Therefore, police said serious injury can and will occur in the event of a collision between a golf cart and an automobile.

Police said violators can be fined and have their drive license suspended.

Off- road vehicles are allowed to be operated on private roads or private property.
