(La Porte, IN) - City Police are investigating the discovery of a dead woman in downtown La Porte.

 

According to police, at about 1 p.m. Friday afternoon, patrol officers were dispatched to 414 Lincolnway, an office building at the corner of Jackson Street, in reference to a deceased female. Officers found a body outside the building positioned between the entrance and the front hedge bushes.

 

The identity of the 30-year-old female has not been released, nor any further details. Although there is an active investigation ongoing, authorities say this appears to be an isolated incident, and there is no known threat to the public.

 

Police are, however, cautioning the public against rumormongering:

 

“We are aware of false and misleading speculation being circulated on social media regarding this incident,” they said in a statement issued Saturday morning. “Specifically, rumors involving a 10-year-old boy are completely untrue. We urge the public not to spread misinformation. We respectfully ask the community to be mindful and considerate of the deceased and their family during this difficult time.”
