OWI Follows Crash

(Michigan City, IN) - She was involved in a motor vehicle crash yesterday but kept driving until arrested in Michigan City for operating while intoxicated.

About 6 p.m., police said officers were called about a possible intoxicated driver and located the suspected vehicle outside Virk’s Liquors in the 1900 block of E. Michigan Boulevard.

Officers were present when a woman later identified as Brittany Sardi, 36, entered the car with visible damage and was speeding when pulled over.

The Osceola woman refused a blood alcohol test, but officers noted she had a strong odor of alcohol on her breath along with symptoms of impairment and a six pack of beer cans in the vehicle.

Police did not reveal where the crash happened but flock cameras showed pictures taken during the afternoon of her car without damage and three hours later with significant damage.

Another picture from a flock camera shows her car that same evening almost off the roadway and traveling on rumble strips, police said.

Police said the OWI charge was upgraded to a felony due to her having a prior OWI conviction from 2019.
