(La Porte County, IN) - A La Porte County man is accused of running from the police on a four wheeler after having too much to drink.
La Porte County Police said Matthew Wilson, 33, was in the area of Fail Road and 700 North early Friday when he fled from a sheriff’s deputy trying to make a traffic stop.
Police said the pursuit went a few miles to the south and west on U.S. 20 then back north until the four-wheeler traveled into a soybean field.
With officers approaching, Wilson stepped off the machine and fled on foot but soon he was taken to the ground by an Indiana State Police trooper.
Wilson is facing several counts including operating while intoxicated,
Police said he had an odor of alcohol on his breath and refused to take a blood alcohol test, which led to the automatic OWI charge. The investigation shows his girlfriend riding with him during the chase tried several times to get Wilson to stop, police said.
