(Porter County, IN) - A jury found a Michigan City man not guilty in connection with an alleged drug related fatal motor vehicle crash. 

Ronnie Borolov, 72, was on trial for the death of Sandra Rice-Hatch, 53, of Chicago.  The crash happened on U.S. 20 near Indiana 49 north of Chesterton in March of 2022.  Authorities said Borolov was found with multiple drugs in his system after the collision.   His SUV collided with the victim’s oncoming car.

The defense claimed there was not sufficient evidence to prove Borolov caused the accident and was impaired at the time of the collision.

The jury reached its not guilty verdict on Wednesday after more than three hours of deliberation.
