OWI Follows Hit and Run Crash

(La Porte County, IN) - La Porte County Police say a man was impaired when he rear ended another vehicle and fled the scene.  Nathan Veach, 24, was booked into the La Porte County Jail after the late Saturday afternoon crash at Johnson Road and 625 West.

Police said Veach struck the back end of a vehicle that was stopped to make a left turn.  After checking on the other driver, Veach got back into his SUV and fled despite a tire falling off one of the rims of his vehicle.

A trail of gouge marks in the pavement made by the rim of his wheel helped officers locate his vehicle with front end damage abandoned behind a barn in the area of 900 West and 300 North, police said.

Veach was found a short time later with broken teeth and a hole in his lip from his face striking the steering vehicle in the collision, police said.

The other driver, Jennifer Nallenweg, 35, complained of pain to her left arm and severe headache from whiplash, police said.

His alleged blood alcohol level was .125 percent.  Police said Veach admitted drinking alcohol and using marijuana prior to the crash.
