Traffic Stop Leads to Drug Bust

(Michigan City, IN) - An expired license plate resulted in a Michigan City man winding up behind bars again on drug dealing allegations.

Michigan City Police said 64 year old Harold Johnson was stopped over the weekend because the license plate on his vehicle expired over a year ago.

Police said he had over two grams of cocaine and some marijuana in his pants pocket along with 55 prescription pain killers underneath the front passenger seat of his vehicle.

The items were found during a search triggered by a K-9 dog alerting officers to the potential presence of drugs.

Johnson could face anywhere from 10 to 30 years on the most serious count, which involves the painkillers he allegedly had without a prescription.

According to court records, he has a prior drug dealing conviction from 2018.
