Health Program Offering Fruit Prescriptions

(Michigan City, IN) - Prescriptions for fresh fruit will be given to people completing a chronic disease management program at Franciscan Health.

The free, six week program focuses on managing all chronic diseases such as diabetes, obesity, heart disease and cancer, according to Franciscan Health officials.

Participants successfully completing the program will receive vouchers for fresh fruit every month for six months.

According to Franciscan Health, participants do not have to be patients within the Franciscan Health system.  Participants must have type 1 or type 2 diabetes, heart disease or high blood pressure, have moderate to high food insecurity as determined by a screening process and complete a six-week Cooking Matters course.

The program will be in session every Monday from 1 p.m. to 2:30 p.m. from July 21 August 25 at the Franciscan Health Michigan City Legacy Campus at 301 W. Homer St.

The registration deadline is July 15.  To register and for more information, contact Selena Tinoco at Selena.Tinoco@FranciscanAlliance.org or call (219) 221-4153.
